2026 Competition Entry Form

Please read what follows very carefully before submitting any entries.

We have made some significant changes for 2026.  Firstly, we will now only have 3 zones for competitions.  The clubs in each new zone for 2026 will be attached to this email.  Make sure you and your members are aware of the zone you are in. Secondly, based on feedback from a survey of the 2025 competitions and responses to a proposal survey sent out earlier this month we have some new competitions and changes to existing competitions.  The results and of the survey are detailed below:

From 2026 all 2 Bowl Singles will be run on fixed days.  The response from the proposals was 44 in favour and 2 against.  The dates are scheduled to be Monday 25th May - Zone 2, Sunday 31st May - Zone 1 and Sunday 28th June - Zone 3.

From 2026 all County Fours will be played on a fixed night.  The response from the proposals was 38 in favour and 8 against.  Based on 2025 entries these will likely be Friday 29th May, Friday 12th June and Friday 19th June.

From 2026 all County Triples will be played on a fixed night.  The response from the proposals was 36 in favour and 10 against.  Based on 2025 entries these will likely be Tuesday 19th May, Tuesday 2nd June and Tuesday 16th June.

From 2026 all County Fours and Triples will be played on a neutral green.  This is dependent on me being able to find 2 good quality greens in each zone prepared to offer their green for the listed Tuesdays and/or Fridays.  If you can help please email me to let me know.  If I fail to get the greens, then we will revert to a Challenger/Opponent system like the 4 Bowl Singles and Pairs.

From 2026 we will be creating a Foundation Singles competition.  The response from the proposals was 27 in favour and 3 against.  This will be open to any male bowler who has never played in a County 4 Bowl Singles Quarter Final.  This is a County only competition and will not lead to Leamington.

From 2026 we will be creating a Mixed Triples competition.  The response from the proposals was 24 in favour and 1 against.  This will be played at two venues over a single day.  Bowlers can either enter the Dunnington Qualifier on Sunday 7th June or the Northallerton Qualifier on Sunday 5th July. Triples will be put into groups and play the first stage in a time-limited round robin format.  Group winners will then play off in a knockout until each day has a winner.  The two winners will play the final on County Finals Weekend.  This is independent of zones, you may enter at either venue.  This is a County only competition and will not lead to Leamington.

I will put out a new survey after the 2026 season to see if the changes we have made have been a success.  We can revert back if they have not and we may have new ideas for changes for 2027 so please help me by responding when the time comes.

I hope the attached entry form is self-explanatory and that you are able to pass this on via email to your club members.  It is important that we encourage as many people as possible to enter our County competitions as this brings greater levels of participation at a high level and also keeps Yorkshire in the top counties in England for entries.  Currently we sit just above the limit that allows us two entries per discipline at Leamington.  Any fall in numbers could put this in jeopardy.

Can I also ask that if you have any bowlers under the age 24 on 1st April that you enter them for the Under 24 Singles.

I am happy to receive entries individually or collated via the club but note that the entry will not become official until the money and the form have been submitted.

The deadline for entries is February 1st 2026 which then gives me time to submit the entries to Bowls England before their deadline.  The Zone draws will take place in early March.

I would also ask that if your club would like to enter the Marshall Shield in 2026 then you reply to this email and transfer across the £10 entry fee per team. From 2026 this will be played on a Sunday morning. Fixed dates are provisionally Sun 24th May (prelim if needed), Sunday 14th June and Sunday 19th July.  Finals day will be Monday 31st August.

Helen Walker will be in contact with you regarding entries for the County Mixed Top Club competition in 2026, which will also be £10 per team. Fixed dates are provisionally Sunday 24th May (prelim if needed), Sunday 21st June and Sunday 12th July. Finals Day will be Sunday 2nd August.

Finally, I can confirm that we will have Singles, Pairs, Triples & Fours Quarter Finals in the week beginning 29th June and the Semi Finals, including the 2 bowl singles, in the week beginning 6th July.  We are also aiming for County Finals Weekend to be on the weekend of 25/26 July, subject to green confirmation.

In the meantime if you have any questions regarding all other events then please do email me.

Kind regards
